Lost your photos? Data recovery explained

Dungarvan Tech · Data Recovery Guide

Few things are as stressful as losing your photos, documents or files. The good news: in many cases the data can be recovered — but what you do in the first few minutes really matters. Here's the safe way to handle it.

First, stop using the device

If a phone, laptop or memory card has lost files or won't show them, the single most important thing is to stop using it. Every time you save, install or download something, you risk overwriting the very data you want back. Power it down and bring it to us as it is.

Don't keep trying "fix it" apps. Random recovery apps and repeated restarts can make things worse. If the data matters, let us take a look first. Call (058) 64349.

Common situations we see

In many of these cases the storage itself is still readable and the files can be retrieved. In others — particularly physical drive damage — recovery is more complex, and we'll be upfront with you about the chances.

How it works

Bring the device in and we'll assess whether the data is recoverable, what's involved, and roughly how long it will take. There's no point promising miracles — but we'll give you an honest read on your options and a clear price before any work goes ahead.

The best fix is prevention

Once your files are safe, we'll happily help you set up a simple backup — cloud, an external drive, or both — so you're never in this position again. We can also sort chargers, storage and accessories while you're in.

What affects whether files can be recovered

The biggest factor is whether the storage itself is still readable. If a device simply won't boot or has a software fault, the data is often intact and recoverable. If the storage chip or drive is physically damaged — a bad drop, water, or a failed component — recovery is harder and can't be promised. Acting quickly, and not overwriting anything in the meantime, always gives the best chance.

Water-damaged phones — act fast

If your phone has been in water, don't keep trying to charge or power it on — that can cause more damage. Dry it, power it off, and bring it in as soon as possible. The sooner we see it, the better the odds of saving what's on it.

Across West Waterford. People bring devices to Dungarvan Tech from all over the area — Abbeyside, Ballinacourty, Cappoquin and Lismore — when files matter.
